Humans in the environment- Lucien

With the shooting of my photo for humans in the environment assignment it felt like everything came together so perfect for this shot. I was able to get on the same day as my black and white photo, that being the Thursday, February 25th field trip to Clark’s point. The day and location was simply perfect for the assignment, the weather had the most beautiful overcast that really highlighted the subtle beauties of locations such as this and similar in the pacific northwest. Also having everyone in the class interacting with nature in the way of photography really just tied the bow on how perfect this day was for completing this assignment. While this photo was not staged or created exactly the way the assignment is laid out on canvas, I feel like it upholds the nature and premise of it well.

In this photo I captured Tyler sitting on the rocks alone on the shore of Clarks Point presumably capturing shots of the gorgeous water and waves. I feel I captured a few feelings, emotions and ideas particularly well in this photo. I think my favorite aspect of it is the use of a feeling of size and sense of scale. I took the photo from quite a large distance away from Tyler which made him look small in the grand scheme and scale of the photo. With ISO and shutter speed I made the image look quite gloomy, which matched well with the weather outside and how it felt quite cold outside as well, most wouldn’t look at the photo and assume it was a warm day outside. My positioning of Tyler within the photo was also intentional using the grid technique taught to us in the lecture by Greg Green. By putting the subject in the top left intersection point of the grid I drew attention to him in the photo as something to put emphasis on.
