Landscape - Jun

I wasn't thrilled with the images I got at Tennant Lake yesterday, so I decided to take advantage of today's sunshine and have a lovely and slightly perilous walk up the hill to take some photos of Mount Baker. I waited until mid-afternoon, as I knew if the sun was still shining it would cast complimentary winter shadows on the mountain. Plus, I've always wanted to stop to take pics of it, but never have.

The sky cooperated; I took some pretty nice photos over the hills to the West of my neighbor's property with some hazy mountains visible on the skyline, but I really wanted to get a good walk in and the view of Baker was not far. I I ended up walking a bit further than I expected to, as the views of the mountain were obstructed by trees and power lines, but I didn't mind despite the fact that there are no sidewalks and a fairly high speed limit. It was a little sketchy - I doubt I'll walk along the road like that again - but it was a beautiful day with some good views.

I remembered I had an FL-D filter attachment that shipped with my used camera, and thought it would look interesting with the purple hues. Now, I am not usually one to speak aloud to myself, but after I snapped the first pic with that filter on, I said, "Oh wow, that's cool!"

I didn't realize there aren't many unobstructed views of Baker along the main road. I considered knocking on someone's door to ask if I could go in their field, but decided against it. I thought the power lines looked kinda cool in these, anyway. Truthfully, I didn't experiment with shutter speed and aperture much for these photos. They just seemed so vivid and beautiful with little effort.

I did take many more photos of other landscapes on my walk where I experimented a lot with shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation, and white balance, but in keeping with the spirit of the assignment, I only included my favorite photos from this vantage point. I'm realizing now that they are more focused on the power lines than anything else, but it's so hard to see that on the tiny LCD! I will try to review photos with the zoom function in image preview next time.
