Photograph a Scene Throughout a Day - Jun

I am blessed to have a gorgeous south facing view from my bedroom window. This douglas fir is one of my favorite trees around the house; I love the jaunty angle it takes at the top. For an unobstructed view, I took this photo series from the deck outside.

I have many photos of this tree - backlit by a beautiful blue sky, surrounded by wildfire smoke, or covered in snow. There was a blizzard one xmas a few years ago, during which a juvenile bald eagle sat perched in a big leaf maple to the right of this doug fir. I was able to get photos of them through binoculars with my phone, though the photos weren't very good. I'll be much better prepared next time with a zoom lens and camera knowledge.

The house picks up lots of warm sunshine in winter through huge windows spanning the length of every floor. In the kitchen window, my spindly spiderwort blooms tiny pink flowers with the help of these winter rays. The low angle of the sun this time of year helped me grow dozens of veggie starts indoors during lockdown. That year, I had a several gallons of cherry tomatoes and dozens of peppers and eggplants.

Throughout the year, we usually still hear the occasional frog, even when it's been freezing. I surmise that the hot tub has a bit to do with that. The neighbor's outdoor cat also uses it for warmth. Though many of the migratory birds have gone, I still hear eagles and see lots of little birds around like the tiny, adorable golden-crowned kinglet. The owl sound that I had assumed was a barred owl in my previous post was ID'd as a great horned owl with the merlin app the other night, so that's cool. No invasive owls in our woods, after all.

There are plenty of coyotes around and they seem to be getting more desperate, so the neighbors say. We all wonder if it's because of normal winter scarcity or if something else is playing a part. We have all seen them around in the daytime, even running across the yard in broad daylight.

I had to grab an extra photo at the end, because the sky was looking pretty at sunset. This was a fun exercise; I feel like I am able to hone in on what settings will grab a better shot every time I pick up the camera.
