Nature in Your Neighborhood - Cora

Apologies for the late blog and no writing. I'll complete this soon!

Essay:

I don't tend to pay too much attention to the names of specific plants I'm seeing, though I do appreciate them. I mostly pay attention to the aesthetics, especially when I'm looking to take a picture. I don't know the names of any of these plants besides the kale. Still, I assumed they would probably be non-native, which was stated in class. When I went out to take pictures, I wanted to find whatever colorful things I could. As much as I love other plants, I focus on flowers the most in my own photography and thought it would be fun to see what's out in winter right now.

I do know that what my partner and I caught is a garter snake! It musked a bit when it was first caught, but it relaxed very quickly and didn't bite at all. I love snakes- I have two pet ball pythons. I've been told that garter snakes are the only native snake species in this area, though looking it up gives me lists that contradict that. They're also one of the few snakes that do better in groups. When keeping them as pets, it's recommended to have them in pairs.
