Nature in Your Neighborhood

This last Saturday, January 18th, in the late afternoon, I went on a walk with my dog through the trails in Mount Vernon. There was a water stream and a bridge. I didn't see many animals in the water, but the water was really cold and clear. While I was walking, my dog kept barking at the squirrels around us and the little black birds. It was quite a lively walk with all the sounds of nature around us.

I've noticed that this trail needs to be updated. They're digging up the concrete where the tree roots have broken it up. I'm hoping they update the trails soon because there are some places that are muddy, and I've slipped a couple of times. But I enjoy taking this trail with my dog. We walk up to Higgins through the trails around a man-made pond. You see it in the photos I post. Usually, there are some ducks in the pond, but it seemed still and quiet this time. It felt a bit eerie without the usual duck activity.

My apartment is an older building, and the nature around it is very healthy, almost taking over. The grass grows on our balconies, and the fence is barely visible because of all the overgrown plants. Nature is all around my apartment. There's even a tiny pond that built up from water, which my dog loves to go in for some reason. I've noticed that the grass in the apartment complex is getting very long, and I've seen a lot more mushrooms growing around. It seems like they are not keeping up with the maintenance of the apartments. I didn't ever notice these things before, but now I see them everywhere.
