Nature In My Neighborhood - Tyler Adres 1/19
Whilst looking around my apartment, I was shocked by the amount of different plants there were around this building, whether they were poking out of the sidewalks of alongside. the perimeter of the walls.
Don't get me wrong- I have always appreciated nature and the environment around me.
I grew up in Sitka, Alaska and have grown to love the earth; I am especially appreciative of the ocean and mountains. So much so, I chose this university so I could still be surrounded by those same things, the same beautiful environment.
I have spent my whole life in Sitka, and as much as I love every aspect of nature, I have gotten so familiar to to this environment. Before this assignment, it has been a long time since I have really focused on the small things, what is actually around me.

My knowledge around the names of specific plants is limited, but I really enjoyed taking a picture of the plant that was emerging up from the concrete sidewalk. It is fascinating to see such beautiful healthy colors come out of a man-made creation. I also enjoyed looking at moss. I like the texture and the different shades that it contains.
Health wise, I would say that the environment around my neighborhood is doing very good. But living on a busy road to campus, there is definitely less green than there would be towards neighborhoods farther away.
This assignment has sparked the same perspective that I used to have growing up: a strong appreciation for the natural world. I am excited to get even deeper into this course, learning about these specific plants that are native to this area while understanding how to compose better photos of our subjects.
