Keegan Pana - Blog 2: Nature in Your Neighborhood
These photos were taken on the path I take to walk to school every day. The path lies between two apartment complexes. I took the photos as I was walking back from class, but the order of them in this blog are in reverse chronological order.
As far as wild animals and plants that I see on this trail, sometimes I see squirrels and birds as I am walking to and from class. If I am lucky, occasionally I will see a deer or two. I am not familiar with the names of any of them, but there seems to be a wide variety of trees and other plants along this trail. Most of the trees are relatively short.
The neighborhood I live in is called Happy Valley. It is just south of the WWU campus. Other than the path I walk to school on, some places I see nature in my neighborhood include between all the different apartment complex buildings and around the parking lots. Just outside the window I am sitting by now, I can see 10 trees surrounding the parking lot of the apartment I live in. I can also see a whole forest of trees across the freeway toward the Samish Crest area.
I would say that nature is relatively healthy in my neighborhood. I am not exactly sure what constitutes whether or not nature is genuinely healthy in my neighborhood, but the variety of different types of plants and trees seems like a good sign to me. Some of the trees are deciduous and others are coniferous. I also see a variety of different animals which leads me to believe that nature is healthy in my neighborhood.
