Jazmine - Nature in my Neighborhood
These photos feature some of the nature in my neighborhood, specifically located behind my building. I photographed a few hamamelis Mollis, a rhododendron before it blooms, and Sitka spruce trees.
Hamamelis
Mollis, also known as Chinese witch hazel, is not native to the Pacific
Northwest. They are commonly found in eastern and southern North America.
Sitka Spruce
is considered a maritime species, which means it is a living organism that thrives
in environments containing salt water.
Next is a Rhododendron
in its early stage of life. Pacific Rhododendrons are native to Bellingham and Washington
state.
Lastly, I
tried to take a picture of the sun setting but instead captured the outline of
skinny trees contrasting against the sky.
While
photographing my neighborhood, I was not surprised by any places where nature
existed. I think it is fascinating that almost everywhere you look, you can
find a piece of nature along the grass, or in the trees.
I am
unsure how I would define what healthy nature in a neighborhood appears to be.
In terms of photography, I like the frost that has been added to the trees and
flowers due to the cold climate we are experiencing. However, I am intrigued by
how the climate internally affects nature and the animals that might nest or feed
from it.
